Science Assessment
In August 2008, Grade 6 students undertook a Science Literacy
assessment which incorporates a practical task, multiple choice
questions and interpretive responses. Three aspects of Science
literacy are tested:
- Planning investigations and collecting evidence;
- Interpreting evidence and drawing conclusions; and
- Using scientific understanding to describe and explain natural
phenomena.
Erasmus Grade 6 students all scored above the national
mean, and 78% of them achieved scores in the top 10%. The students'
results are compared to those achieved in 2005 by 14,000 students
from 650 schools spread across Australia.
For this assessment, Erasmus School used the School Release
Materials for Science Literacy from the 2005 assessment available
on the Commonwealth Government
MCEETYA website.
