Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiads
The APSMO conducts five tests held throughout the year, which
are designed for grade 5 and 6 students. Individuals are awarded
certificates and medals according to their performance.
Each year Erasmus School enters a team of pupils. All children
who participate in the Erasmus School Maths Enrichment program
automatically enter the competition, but it is open to other pupils
in Grades 5/6. The purpose of the Olympiads is to:
- Introduce students to important mathematical concepts
- Teach major strategies and develop flexibility for problem
solving
- Foster creativity and ingenuity and strengthen intuition
- Stimulate enthusiasm and enjoyment for mathematics
- Provide for the satisfaction, joy, and thrill of meeting
challenges
