The great philosophic and spiritual teachings of the East and
West are introduced to the children by way of stories, readings,
plays and selected passages from the scriptures.
Children are invited to discover for themselves the value of these
principles and to keep an open mind free of prejudices. They are
encouraged to make practical use of philosophy at school and at
home.
The teaching of virtues such as fearlessness, harmlessness,
truthfulness, patience and forgiveness helps to build strength of
character. It is expected that teachers will set an example
for the children to follow.
Meditation is also offered to the children. This
voluntary practice has been found to bring peace of mind, happiness
and inner strength.
Scripture Study takes place once a week in each class.
The children hear or read stories, psalms and proverbs from the Old
Testament and also study the New Testament. Selected passages from
the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads are also studied and
discussed. Many beautiful and profound passages are memorised and
recited or sung.
Philosophy Lessons impart the teachings of the Advaita
Philosophy in simple terms and with accompanying stories. Children
are encouraged to discuss the content and to put it into practice,
to discover for themselves its true meaning and application.
Awareness and Mindfulness exercises are practised daily.
These help the children to find inner peace, to develop
concentration and to connect more fully and openly with others and
the world around them.
