Extra Curricular Activities

Extra Curricular Activities

It is important for the complete development of the children that they have opportunities for development outside the classroom.

Performances, celebrations, senior level camps and participation in significant national occasions form a part of the Erasmus School year. Additionally, Erasmus School provides a variety of after school activities and excursions, incursions and camps.

Students are given opportunities for practical application of the principles they encounter in their weekly lessons: co-operation, participation and contribution, service, stepping forward to assume responsibility, courage and developing an understanding of their relationship with the world in which they live.

Activities also provide other opportunities to express their creativity and to just have fun!

After School Activities on Site

A variety of after school activities are offered: chess, drama, art, fencing, Choristers, Ensemble and Indian dance. See After School Activities page for timetable and notes.

Erasmus School does not offer an after school care programme but does have an arrangement with an after school facility at Glenferrie Primary School.  A teacher accompanies participating Erasmus children to the site which is a short walk away.

Excursions, Incursions and Camps

Grades 4, 5 and 6 are taken on a camp each year. Previous venues have been Wilson’s Promontory, Camp Manyung and Howqua. In 2007 and 2008 Grade 6 visited Canberra, and in 2008, many of the Grade 5 and 6 children spent a week at Mount Buller developing their skills in skiing. Most terms each grade participates in an excursion or incursion that increases their experiences and knowledge of subjects worked on in class e.g. Sovereign Hill, Melbourne and Werribee Zoos, Planetarium, Aquarium, Skylab, ballet, Opera Australia etc. In-class activities have included the hatching of chicks from eggs in the Prep classroom.

The $60 excursion fund, collected at $15 per term covers most of these events. Camps are calculated separately and charged at cost. Average costs from previous camps are shown on the Pledge Form.

Parent’s permission is required prior to a child going on any event outside the school, also an updated medical form for camps. A contact person’s telephone details are also required in case of emergency.Howqua07 Children on summit.jpg
