Premier's Reading Challenge 2009
Ready, set, go! The 2009 Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is
open. 75 Erasmus School pupils (about 2/3s of the School) have
entered the PRC.
The PRC website is http://www.education.vic.gov.au/prc/.
For complete instructions to the online system, download the Guide (85 kb).
See below for readers' comments and reviews.
We will verify student reading records closer to the closing
date, 31 August, but please begin your data entry. You'll
find that most books commonly available in Victoria are listed in
the PRC reading list so there is not a lot of extra keying, just
ticking of boxes. It's an honour system, whereby we trust that
records are being updated correctly under parental supervision.
We're not going to give random quizzes to students!
Exceeding the Challenge
Please keep entering books even if you've met the Challenge.
This reading record is a useful tool in several ways - for the
child & parent to maintain the reading record, for teachers to
engage with classes around books students enjoy, and for the school
librarian to develop the school library collection.
If you have any questions about the PRC and procedures, please
call any of the PRC
coordinators: Julia Veitch 0430 048 095, Sharon Hoffmann 0430 072
826 (after hours) or Maryna Mews c/- 98191266.
Children's book reviews

Ramesh Vidyasagar, Grade 4:"I read 'Space Demons' [by
Gillian Rubinstein] and it was very exciting and freaky because
they got inside the computer game and had to do the right things to
get out. Now I'm reading the next book, 'Skymaze' which has a 3-D
web in it and it's also very freaky and I think I would die from
fright if I were actually in the game!" [posted 7 Jul 09]
Book Week
Book Week is 22-28 August. Among other things, there is the
dress up day where children can dress as their favourite book
character. |
